Our trip to Japan started with its capital, Tokyo. Tokyo is a huge and very diverse city, so we decided to spend the first ten days of our trip there.
Before going to Japan, it is possible to obtain a “Japan Rail Pass” ( € 250 / 1 week, € 400 / 2 weeks, € 510 / 3 weeks) which makes it possible to travel on all the fast train network of Japan (JR). Since we stayed more than a month in Japan, we chose to not take it and rather use slower means of transportation such as buses or slow trains.
In order to organize our trips in the city of Tokyo, we bought the 72 hours Metro pass costing 1500 yen (around € 12.5).
Regarding attractions, we took the “Grutto Pass”. For 2200 yens (€ 18.5), it offers free or discount access to more than 90 museums (or other attractions) in Tokyo, which allowed us to discover many places.
We made many trips back and forth between the different districts of the city, so we decided to write our articles (and videos) about districts rather than following our journey.
Ueno District
The first district that we wanted to introduce is Ueno, which was very close to our apartment and through which we passed almost every day.
Ueno is famous for its gigantic park, its zoo and its many museums including the National Museum of Tokyo.
