Welcome to Taiwan!
We had already gone to Taiwan, in 2013 for Lila who did a study semester at the National Taiwan University, then together on the West Coast in 2016.
Taiwan is not very touristy, while there are many beautiful landscapes to discover.
We chose to return to Taiwan for the holiday season (Christmas and New Year) so as not to be disoriented and to meet our Taiwanese friends again.
Taipei and surroundings
Taipei, located in the north of Taiwan, is the main city, and with its agglomeration, it gathers nearly 2/3 of the island’s population.
309/5000Taipei is a vibrant city, with lots of places to visit, a very good transport network and many night markets. Knowing the city already well, we decided to focus on new discoveries as well as the places that we enjoyed during our previous visit.
One of those place is the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall, a building commemorating the first leader of Taiwan.
We were also able to discover new places in Taipei, such as the Luzhou Lee Historical Family Mansion.
Coming back to Taipei was also an opportunity to see our friends again, in particular our friend Pascal who took us to see the Shifen waterfall and took us for a walk in the northeast of the island.
Returning to Taipei after the New Year, he also took us on a hike in the Yang Ming Shan Mountains, in the north of Taipei.
In the North of Taipei, we also returned to Beitou, famous for its hot springs and Tamsui, a city by the sea with its buildings from the merchant era.
