Hue is the former capital of Vietnam (between 1802 and 1945). The city is especially known for its monuments and imperial tombs. As many of these monuments are outside the city, we chose to rent a scooter during our three days in Hue.
The Imperial City is located in the center of Hue, on the edge of the Perfume River. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It is made up of several types of buildings: temples, pavilions, a library and a royal theater …
The Imperial City is quite imposing even though part of the buildings (mainly the residences of the royal family) were destroyed in the 1960s.
After visiting the citadel, we moved away from the center of Hue to discover the various imperial tombs.
The mausoleum of Emperor Minh Mang extends over an axis of 700m long, where you pass through different temples before arriving at the tomb itself.
The tomb of Khai Dinh, smaller than the other tombs, is a mixture of European and Asian architectures with very careful decorative work.
On the last level, you can find the Khai Thanh Palace, hosting a bronze statue of Khai Dinh in its center.
Hue is a city that we enjoyed a lot due to its historical heritage and its many monuments.
