Hiroshima, Miyajima & Fukuoka – 11/13/2019 to 11/20/2019

To end our trip in Japan, we visited Hiroshima, Miyajima Island and Fukuoka.

Hiroshima

Hiroshima is a city with a very heavy past, hurt by its tragedy. Between the dome, one of the only vestiges still standing after the bombing, and its memorial museum, the visits left us with a heavy heart.

Hiroshima also has a wooden castle, quite different from the other castles we have visited before.

Inside the castle, we were able to try traditional kimonos.

Miyajima

Miyajima is an island easily accessible from Hiroshima, by taking a tram and then a ferry. This island was clearly one of our favorite places in Japan.

Small bouddhas

The Daisho-in temple is magnificent, with its many Buddhas with colorful hats, its long-nosed tengu and its beautiful buildings framed by luxurious vegetation.

From the temple (and other places on the island), it is possible to reach one of the hiking trails leading to the top of the mountain. Be careful, however, the hike is not easy!

Another very representative temple of Miyajima is the Itsukushima-jinja and its emblematic door in the sea. Unfortunately for us, the door was under renovation during our visit, which did not prevent us from visiting it!

Fukuoka

Finally, our last stop in Japan was the city of Fukuoka.

Kushida Temple

The city of Fukuoka is less touristy than the other places we visited, and we took the opportunity to take some rest.

It was from this city that we took the ferry to South Korea, thus ending our Japanese journey.
